"Children shouldn't work in fields, but on dreams!"
The gift of being a child
One of the most beautiful gifts of being a child, or indeed of watching children grow and experience the world around them, is their carefree nature. The way their imagination blooms, the joy they find in play, and the way their unique giftings unfold and develop as they grow.
This is the way it’s meant to be – a precious period of time without the worries and concerns of adulthood. A time to be nurtured and cared for, a time of unbridled joy, a time of preparation, a time of dreaming without limits.
The tragedy of lost childhood
Tragically, not all children get to experience the freedom and joy that should accompany childhood. Across the world, an estimated 152 million children are trapped in child labour. Almost half of them work in hazardous situations. Many work full-time and don’t get the chance to go to school, play, or simply enjoy the wonder of being a child.
The theme of the 2019 World Day Against Child Labour (observed on 12thJune) was “Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams!” How true this is!
In the region where we work, many children work in fields, or other areas of labour. We are grieved by this, and are determined to change the stats.
Born to be heroes
We are primarily doing this by providing quality education and nurture through our schools. As well as receiving high quality education, our students are encouraged to play, as we know it is an integral part of their development!
We also believe in uncovering the unique giftings of each child, and instilling within them their innate value. When children understand their value and recognise their unique giftings, they will change the world. When they’re given the opportunity to pursue the things they were made to do, they will be unstoppable!
Funding a child to go to school can keep them out of the fields and instead, working on their dreams. We believe every single child was born to have a positive impact on the world. They were born to be heroes.
Would you be a hero to our young heroes today by giving the gift of education?
